Enemies and Rascals, a new polyphonic sound installation from Terence Gower, returns to a largely forgotten episode of North American history: the Invasion of Quebec during the American War of Independence.

Plan your visit

The duration of audio installation is 40 minutes, playing on a loop. 

From Wednesday to Friday the exhibition opens at 12:00 and the start times are as follows:
12.15, 13.00, 13.45 ,14.30, 15.15, 16.00, 16.45, 17.30, 18.15

On Saturdays and Sundays the exhibition opens at 10:45 and the start times are as follows:
11.00, 11.45, 12.30, 13.15, 14.00, 14.45, 15.30, 16.15

If you'd like to experience the artwork from the beginning, we recommend arriving a few minutes before the start time.

Enemies and Rascals is complemented by an exhibition of related rare books and historical documents in the library’s Weston Room, curated by Gower, Katie Sambrook, and colleagues at the Foyle Special Collections Library.

We recommend allowing 60 - 75 minutes for your visit.

On days when higher traffic is expected there will be hourly time slots to help ensure visitors have the optimal experience. On remaining days, visitors are welcome to arrive at any time during opening hours up to 30 minutes before closing.

Non-standard operational days and closures

Please note, Enemies and Rascals is closed Saturday 22 August, Sunday 23 August, and Saturday 5 September.

The King's College Open House will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September. Enemies and Rascals will be open, and you will be able to visit the Original Cell without tickets. Due to the Open House, it will be especially busy this weekend.

The Weston Room is closed on 15 October 2026, but the exhibition taking place in the Original Cell will be open as usual.

This event will be held in-person across two rooms located inside the Maughan Library (London, WC2A 1LR): the Original Cell and the Weston Room. For information on building access, please find details on our website here.

Important information for wheelchair users and step-free individuals:
The Original Cell is not easily accessed by wheelchair. For information on dimensions and turning circles, please read our access statement here. If you require wheelchair access to the Original Cell please contact foh@artangel.org.uk.

Step-free and wheelchair access to the Weston Room is permitted by an access lift. If you require step free access to the Weston Room please contact foh@artangel.org.uk.

Please note: The mezzanine floor in the Original Cell is an open steel grid with visibility between levels, including from below. High heels are not permitted on the mezzanine floor.
